Xiaomi, a couple of months ago, announced through its official channels that it has called off the Redmi 7 MIUI 12 update. The phone, according to Xiaomi, isn’t compatible with MIUI 12. And because of that, it was delisted alongside the Redmi Y3, Redmi 6, and Redmi 6A. However, it received Android 10 based MIUI 11 update a couple of weeks ago, and it seems to have made the phone compatible with MIUI 12 as the update starts rolling out in China.
Xiaomi is full of surprises and won’t stop surprising us. We were not expecting the Redmi 7 MIUI 12 update rollout after the initial announcement. But like we said already, it seems the Android 10 update has fixed the issues, and now those users of the entry-level device can get the taste of MIUI 12.
Meanwhile, the update is currently hitting devices running the Chinese ROM. They’re always the first to receive any major MIUI update before it starts hitting other regions. And since those in that region are now getting the Redmi 7 MIUI 12 update, it will come to India, global, and EEA models shortly.
The update has a version number, MIUI 12.0.1.0 QFLCNXM, and weighs in at about 483MB. It comes with bug fixes, system optimization, features of MIUI 12, and a new Android security patch – January 2021. You can check for the update via the updater app, but given it’s an OTA rollout, it will take some time before it appears on your device.
Nevertheless, if you’re running the Chinese ROM, you can follow the link below and download the Redmi 7 MIUI 12 update. After downloading the ROM, you should use the recovery method to flash it.
