The Redmi 8 was among the best selling Redmi phones of Q1 2020, alongside the Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro. But while the Note 8 duo have already received a stable MIUI 12 update, the update is yet to start seeding for Redmi 8 users. However, that might soon change according to a new report, which claims the Redmi 8 MIUI 12 update is going to arrive very soon, and hopefully before the end of this year.
It makes sense that Xiaomi finalizes the MIUI 12 rollout this year to focus solemnly on bringing the next iteration next year. But so far, it doesn’t seem like the rollout will be completed this year with just a few weeks left before the year comes to an end. That is us thinking, though. Xiaomi is full of surprises and might decide to start rolling the update to all units out of the blue. We have seen the Redmi Note 9 Pro receive Android 11 without closed beta testing, and that’s what the company can do, and hence, we think Redmi 8 MIUI 12 update might still arrive this year.
According to a Moderator on the Mi community forum, when replying to a user seeking a tentative ETA as to when Redmi 8 MIUI 12 update will be released. He said, “wait for the official announcement…soon it will be released.” Other times, it has been “No ETA,” but it was different this time, and we hope to see the update start arriving soon.

Also, since the Redmi 8 users are yet to receive the November patch, which has arrived on Redmi 9, they might see the much-anticipated MIUI 12 update come alongside. We have got to wait and see, and we still believe in Xiaomi surprises. That said, we will be on the lookout for new information and will update this space accordingly.
