By shrinking the bezel, Redmi was able to get a tall 6.22-inch IPS display. Unfortunately, it still maintains the 720 x 1520p resolution, which is poor considering that it’ll affect the quality of images on the screen. The best thing should’ve been to increase the resolution, but the price tag might have been the case.

The device has a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, making the screen unbreakable. It also supports P2i, meaning the device is resistance to splash.

Performance

While the Redmi 7 has Snapdragon 632, Redmi 8 runs Snapdragon 439, which will be a problem to so many users trying to figure it out. It turns out the SD 439 is a more efficient processor with improved battery life, while SD 632 offers better performance.

Also, the latter is built on a 14nm process while the former is on 12nm, which greatly improves the battery performance. And with their GPU Adreno 506 and 505 respectively, their performance will be the same.

Meanwhile, the device will run MIUI 10 outside the box on top Android Pie, while we wait on the words of the company to deliver Android 10 very soon.

Storage

We now have so many ways of storing our files remotely and can even access it anywhere in the world. That’s technology, and Redmi 8 allows you to do all that while complementing it with a 64GB internal storage, which supports expansion with Micro SD up to 512GB.

Camera

When we want a camera powerhouse phone, the MIX-series and Mi-series are our best options for a Xiaomi device. But the Redmi 8 is just a mid-range device but manages to feature two decent camera sensor at the back. There’s a 12MP shooter accompanied by a 2MP depth effect sensor, while at the front notch is an 8MP sensor.

The phone not being a camera powerhouse doesn’t mean it can’t take decent shots, because it has got so many AI enhancements to make sure it delivers. It also has some beauty enhancements to make each shot taken with the device a great experience.

Battery

When the 4000mAh inside the Redmi 7 is said to be enough, Redmi has added an extra 1000mAh to the Redmi 8 capacity. That’s insane and you even get 18W fast charging via USB-C port. Unfortunately, the package doesn’t come with the Quick Charge adapter and spending a few bucks getting the 18W adapter, means you won’t charge your device for 120minutes.

The question is, will you spend more bucks to get Redmi 8 with a fingerprint reader or spend less to get Redmi 8A without a physical scanner? That’ll be left for you to answer but remember the former makes use face unlock for authentication.
