Xiaomi is winding down the MIUI 12.5 rollout in China as they set sight on the next iteration of MIUI. The Chinese OEM will announce MIUI 13 in the coming weeks, and we have since seen some features it will present. According to recent reports, the upcoming MIUI Android skin will revamp the control center, support floating windows for games, improve animation, and more. It is expected that Xiaomi will finalize the current rollout to focus on the next version. Hence, the Redmi 9 MIUI 12.5 update has been released, which is another step closer to the finalization.
Meanwhile, the Redmi 9 MIUI 12.5 update is a Chinese release. It is seeding for select users at the moment for preview, and hopefully, the public rollout will commence shortly. But while this current rollout is a welcome development, it has since disabled Google Framework Work. What it means is this, Google Play Services won’t work on your device after upgrading to MIUI 12.5 Unfortunately, there’s no workaround for that yet, and only premium Xiaomi phones can install Google Play Services after upgrading. However, you can check this post here and follow the guidelines to see if there’s any luck.
