Redmi K40 to debut later this month, Pro model tipped for early next year

After Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 888 SoC, many smartphone makers, including Xiaomi, promised to release a device that’s going to run the premium SoC. The Xiaomi Mi 11 flagship is expected to debut the Chipset first, and it seems Redmi will wait until next year to release its own Snapdragon 888-powered phone.

However, according to the latest report, the company looks like it’s going to follow the launch pattern of the Redmi K30 series for the successor, the Redmi K40 series. Rumors have it that later this month, the Chinese OEM will unveil the vanilla version, Redmi K40, while the Redmi K40 Pro is going to launch next year.

It’s unclear the processor that’ll power the Redmi K40, but it has been rumored to debut an unannounced Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC. We expect the Snapdragon 775G SoC, which is going to debut early next year. As for the Redmi K40 Pro, the company executive, Lu Weibing, already confirmed they are working on a Snapdragon 888 phone, and that’s no doubt, the K40 Pro. The device, according to him, will be among the first to run the Snapdragon 888 SoC.

Meanwhile, there has been a recent leak showing the display design of the supposed Redmi K40 Pro, which suggests the device will feature a punch hole for the front camera. That indicates that the company has ditched the mechanical pop-up mechanism, which features in the Redmi K30 Pro. The screen is expected to use an OLED display with support for a 120Hz refresh rate. If that’s true, then we might see a big battery with an improved fast charging solution to complement the demanding features of the screen.

We expect more details of the device to surface in the coming days, especially if the rumors of an imminent launch are correct. Also, the company will start releasing teasers and banners of the device.
