Redmi K40s Specs show it’s a toned-down version of the Xiaomi 12X. The device also has a lot in common with the Redmi K40 from last year as both share similar internals. Perhaps, the device is an affordable version of the 12X with a starting price of $283. It is also a refreshed Redmi K40 as it adds OIS and runs Android 12 on top of MIUI 13 outside of the box.

Redmi K40s Specs
Apparently, the Redmi K40s is the Redmi K40 in a new body. The device has a flat body with a 7.7mm thick frame made of Aluminium and a plastic back. A Corning Gorilla Glass 5 comes on the front panel and there’s a centered punch hole for the 20MP selfie snapper. Around the back is a rectangular bump island with triple camera sensors arranged in a circular pattern, while the flashlight comes underneath. The frame is where you have the volume rocker and power button that doubles as a fingerprint scanner while there’s a single speaker girl at the top and bottom. You would be able to choose between Black, Gray, Blue, and Green colors.
Redmi K40s display
The Redmi K40s has a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel that refreshes at 120Hz and a touch sampling rate of 360Hz. That would guarantee a faster response time during gaming while the device can reach a peak brightness of 1300nits. The FullHD+ EA panel is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It is resistant to scratch and mild falls.
Redmi K40s performance
Under the hood and behind the robust performance is the Snapdragon 870 Octa-Core SOC. It supports 5G connectivity and is the processor on the Xiaomi 12X and Redmi K40. The SoC has a single prime core at 3.2GHz, three performance cores, and four efficiency cores. Handling graphics is the Adreno 650 GPU, and coupled with the screen, will deliver punchy and accurate colors. Outside of the box, the device runs Android 12 on top of MIUI 13.
Redmi K40s camera
There’s a triple camera sensor on the rear of the Redmi K40s. The primary 48MP snapper is Sony IMX582 sensor, now with optical image stabilization. Additional sensors include an 8MP ultra-wide angle and 2MP macro shooter, while that selfie snapper is a 20MP shooter. Apparently, the Redmi K40s would perform better Camera-wise, including shooting videos.
Redmi K40s battery and security
There have been some improvements in the battery department compared to the Redmi K40. Instead of a 33W fast charging, the Redmi K40s supports 67W charging. That would get the device to 100% from 0 in 38% minutes, according to Xiaomi, which isn’t bad considering the 4500mAh battery capacity.
For security, the device uses a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, which is built-in on the power button. It’s responsive and unlocks the device in seconds. You would be able to record up to five fingerprints and perform other functions with the scanner.
Redmi K40s price and availability
The Redmi K40s price starts at $282 for the base 6/128GB variants, while the 8/128GB version retails for $290. There’s a more premium version of 8/256GB that goes for $350 and is currently available for grabs in China.
