Redmi Note 7 debuts with Sony IMX 586 camera

The first smartphone from Redmi sub-brand – Redmi Note 7 is now official. It was announced by Lei Jun, Xiaomi CEO, on 10 January at an event held in China. The device looks more like the recently announced MI Play, featuring snapdragon 660 SoC, a big display and battery, and 48MP primary camera. Most importantly, it’s affordable with an asking price of $150 for the base version.

Meanwhile, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 Octa-core is a bit old considering the fact that Snapdragon 675 is now available and offers more improved performance. Nevertherless, Redmi Note 7 will still impress with the CPU running at 2.2GHz, coupled with the memory configurations. There are three memory variants of 3/32GB, 4/GB, and 6/64GB, all expandable via Micro SD.

Behind the power is a 4000mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 4.0 over a USB-C port. It comes with 5V/2A charger but with extra $10, you can get 9V/2A quick charger, which according to Xiaomi CEO charges from 0 to 100% in 103 minutes.

The screen measures 6.3-inches diagonally with a water drop notch for the selfie camera and Corning Gorilla Glass on top for maximum durability. It’s resolution is Full HD+ and boasts of 84% body-to-screen ratio.

More interesting about the new Redmi Note 7 is the 48MP primary sensor with a large 1.6um pixel and a real-time HDR. There’s also a 5MP depth effect lens and the 13MP selfie snapper fitted inside the front notch.

Redmi Note 7 price starts at CNY 999 ($150) for 3/32GB base version. Other variant include 4/64GB for CYN 1,199 and 6/64GB for CNY 1,399. Pre-orders have already started while the device will start shipping in 5 days.
