Xiaomi surprised everyone when they started sending out a stable MIUI 12 based Android 11 update to the Redmi Note 9 Pro a couple of days ago. It even looks like we’re in for a bigger surprise as a new report suggests that Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro are currently testing Android 11 internally.
For the past few years now, the Redmi Note series has been restricted to one OS upgrade and multiple MIUI upgrades. As such, not many people were expecting the Redmi Note 8 or Redmi Note 8 Pro to receive the Android 11 update, but it looks like Xiaomi is about to compensate the record-breaking Redmi Note 8 series users with an extra OS update.
The Redmi Note 8 series was Xiaomi’s best selling smartphone of Q1 2020. It was the second best selling smartphone at the time as well as, which helped the company surpass 140 million Redmi Note users. An extra OS upgrade wouldn’t be much to celebrate that feat.
According to Xiaomiui, a telegram channel exclusively for MIUI update and Xiaomi news, which also keeps accurate records of all Xiaomi updates, the company is now testing Android 11 internally for the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro.
This particular move would see the Redmi Note series gain more attention and might also affect the popularity of the recently released OnePlus Nord, which the company confirmed will only receive one OS upgrade. Perhaps, the move from OnePlus might be what prompted Xiaomi to start Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro Android 11 update testing.
Meanwhile, it’s still unclear when the stable version of the update will be ready, but we hope to find out very soon. Also, Xiaomi is yet to confirm the new development, and we doubt if they will. However, we hope to confirm the report when the new OS makes it to those device users participating in closed beta testing.
That said, we will be monitoring the situation and will update this space when there’s new information as regards Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro Android 11 update.
