Xiaomi, before the unveiling of the MIUI 12.5, announced it’ll upgrade the Redmi Note 8 alongside the Note 8 Pro to Android 11. There was doubt about the possibility, but that’s been cleared long ago with the closed beta group receiving the Android 11 build. Initially, given the complexities of the Redmi Note 8 Android 10 Update, which was finalized a couple of weeks ago, we thought the update would arrive alongside MIUI 12.5. However, that’s not the case now as Xiaomi starts sending out Redmi Note 8 Android 11 update in China.
It’s unclear at the moment when the company will start sending out the update globally. We won’t be surprised if the global model receives the update with MIUI 12.5 as Xiaomi always prioritizes Chinese users. Nevertheless, you can side-load the ROM on your Global model if you have a compatible TWRP Recovery installed. But note that some Google apps might not work, and you would only choose between Chinese and English.
Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 8 Android 11 update, is hitting eligible Chinese users with a version number – MIUI 12.0.1.0 RCOCNXM. Of course, it brings the stable MIUI based on Android 11, and that’s the only change on the changelog. However, expect features of the latest Android OS, system optimization, and a new security patch level. And given that this is a cross-section Android upgrade, you should back up your data before installation. With that, you can restore them if you experience a data loss after the upgrade.
The global users will have to wait and see when Xiaomi decides to release the Redmi Note 8 Android 11 update globally. However, given past events, it takes two weeks after the Chinese release for the same to arrive on the global variant. We hope everything goes smoothly this time, anyway.
