Official features of the Galaxy Z Flip 5

One of the significant upgrades comes in the form of the Flex Hinge, which allows the Z Flip 5 to close completely flat, eliminating the annoying gap seen in the previous model when closed. This enhancement not only enhances the aesthetics but also reduces the phone’s thickness, making it slimmer and more elegant. The device now measures 15.1mm at its thickest point, down by 2mm from the Z Flip 4. When unfolded, the phone stands at 6.9mm thick, 165.1mm tall, and 71.9mm wide.

Despite these improvements, the weight remains consistent at 187g, making it a comfortable companion for on-the-go users. The Z Flip 5 boasts a sturdy build with Armor Aluminum and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both the front and rear panels. Its IPX8-rated body ensures protection against water damage, allowing the phone to withstand being submerged in up to 1m/3.3ft of water for 30 minutes. Furthermore, the new Flex Hinge design employs a twin rail construction, effectively dispersing external impacts in case of accidental drops.

The redesigned Flex Window is another noteworthy addition, providing an interactive experience that is 3.78 times larger than its predecessor. Users can now easily engage with widgets such as weather, music, stocks, and settings (e.g., Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) on a full QWERTY keyboard. The Samsung Wallet offers quick access to payment services, QR codes, and saved discounts. A classic pinch zoom allows users to swiftly peek at widgets and switch between them in Multi Widget View.

The Flex Window also serves as an improved viewfinder, enabling users to capture selfies with the rear cameras, making selfie-taking a breeze. The Dual Preview feature allows you to take pictures of your friends while they can see themselves on the cover display. For handheld recordings, the Super Steady stabilization ensures smooth footage, while Auto Framing keeps you in focus when using the Z Flip 5 as your own tripod.

The primary display boasts a 6.7″ FHD+ screen (22:9) with an adjustable refresh rate of 1-120Hz, offering vibrant visuals and a buttery-smooth user experience. On the other hand, the Flex display with its unique form has a 3.4″ diagonal and a resolution of 720 x 748px (306ppi), operating at 60Hz.

Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy processor, known for its powerful performance, powers the Z Flip 5. It comes with 8GB of RAM and offers storage capacities of 256GB and 512GB, providing ample space for your data and applications.

The camera setup remains unchanged from the previous year, featuring a primary 12MP module with a 1/1.76″ sensor, large 1.8m pixels, and Dual Pixel AF. The f/1.8 lens includes OIS for steady shots. Additionally, a 12MP super wide camera with a 123° lens (f/2.2, 1.12m) is available for capturing expansive landscapes and group shots. The front-facing camera is a dedicated 10MP shooter with an 85° lens (f/2.2, 1.22m pixels) for high-quality selfies.

Excitingly, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is available for pre-order, with open sales commencing on August 11. When it comes to pricing, there’s both good news and bad news. The bad news is that the lowest model (128GB) has been skipped, but the good news is that the other two models are slightly more affordable than previously rumored.

The 256GB model will be priced at £1,050 in the UK, while the 512GB model will cost £1,150, making it a compelling option for users seeking the best of Samsung’s foldable innovations.
