Xiaomi needs to upgrade all their phones running MIUI 12 to MIUI 12.5 since it promises to address many issues. Even Xiaomi’s director of the smartphone software department, Zhang Guoquam, on the Mi Fan Anniversary OPEN DAY live broadcast acknowledged that the stability of MIUI has declined over the years. That’s perhaps why the previous iteration of MIUI has faced a series of bugs, but the company has promised a lighter, smoother, and faster MIUI 12.5. The latest Xiaomi’s Android skin is expected to improve, especially addressing bugs and improving the stability and fluidity of MIUI.
Meanwhile, the stable MIUI 12.5 update has already started rolling out. The build has so far got to Mi 10, Mi 10 Pro, Mi 11, Mi 10 Ultra, and Mi 9 SE. It’s a limited rollout for now, but according to the rollout plan released by Xiaomi a couple of days ago, the stable version will be out before April 30TH. They’ve also released the second batch of devices for the stable MIUI 12.5, which you can check via this link. And surprisingly, Mi 8 series, Mi Mix 2S, and Mi Mix 3, although not on the official list, will receive the stable MIUI 12.5 update.
According to Zhang Guoquan, Mi 8, Mi 8 Exploration Edition, Mi Mix 2S, and Mi Mix 3 will receive stable MIUI 12.5 update. Among all the devices, only the Mix 3 is eligible for the Android 11 update, given that it has only received one Android OS since hitting the shelves. Hopefully, Xiaomi releases both updates simultaneously. Meanwhile, it’s surprising how the Mix 2S, which has passed its three years maintenance period in line to receive the stable MIUI 12.5 update.
Unfortunately, there’s no time frame to when these phones will get the update. From the situation of things, it might be much later. The company has vowed to “strictly” control the quality of updates it rolls out. Hence, they’ll only release a stable version to the public, and if that’s the case, updates might start arriving a bit later.
