The latest MIUI 12.5 closed beta update adds a slew of new privacy features

There was a big improvement in MIUI privacy features when Xiaomi unveiled the MIUI 12, which continued in MIUI 12.5. The company still sees room for improvement and had been doing just that even till now. We expect them to improve the privacy of MIUI further in the next iteration of MIUI (MIUI 13). At least the features of the recently released closed beta update point in that direction. If the words on the street are correct, the latest update seeding for beta groups in China is the first MIUI 13 beta update. That meets the timing of the official unveiling expected in August that was revealed by one of the company’s executives.

New security features

According to our early report, the update rolling out with a version number – MIUI 12.5 V21.7.6 – is allegedly the first MIUI 13 beta update. However, the release Note didn’t reveal anything like that. However, it did bring some features that are supposedly that of MIUI 13. Most of them are focused on improving the privacy features of MIUI. We have seen a shutdown confirmation feature arrived for beta testers, and now, a slew of other new privacy features have been added, as well.

With the latest closed beta build, Xiaomi has integrated an option to restrict apps from tracking your activities. Also, there’s a Privacy Protection Laboratory, that requires an app to ask for approval before accessing your phone number. And while these features arrived with the new MIUI beta update, it has been integrated into the MIUI security app. That means you can get the features by installing the latest version of the MIUI Security app. Unfortunately, you won’t get all these features installing the update on your device running global ROM, but it works perfectly on Chinese ROM. Surprisingly, these features work on Redmi 5 Plus.

The MIUI security app has also seen some UI changes, and you check all that via the source link. We expect a wider rollout with MIUI 13 alongside some of the features currently exclusive to Chinese beta testers. However, you can download the new security app and see if that works for you.
