Today, Xiaomi released the latest Redmi Note 9s update, and it seems the update has fixed some of the previously reported bugs. Currently receiving the update are beta testers, and from their feedback thus far, it brings support for Google ARCore, but fails to upgrade the Widevine security level to L1, which potentially makes HD playback on Netflix and similar platforms impossible.
It’s not the first time such an issue has been reported, and just like the Redmi Note 8 Pro and POCO F2 Pro, it’s always after a major update. However, it seems the Redmi Note 9s had this issue even before it was released. But according to a Moderator in the Mi community forum, the device ”comes with Widevine L1 certification out of the box”. As such, there shouldn’t be any problem playing HD content.
Nevertheless, users keep complaining of their inability to playback content in HD, especially on Netflix and Amazon Prime. A quick check of the device Widevine security level shows the Redmi Note 9S has L1 certification but shows L3 on Netflix. Thus, the platform is probably yet to approve the device, and it doesn’t seem Xiaomi is doing much in that regard.
The issue has once again been reported and we can only hope the next update brings a fix. Meanwhile, the latest Redmi Note 9S update brought a fix for the Google ARCore compatibility issue. However, on the Google developer website, where all supported devices are listed, the Redmi Note 9S isn’t listed. That’s probably because the list hasn’t been updated to add newly certified devices.
Going by reports on Mi community forum, it’s been weeks since the device received support for Google ARCore. And if you’ve received the new update, we would like to know your experience so far, or you can download and flash manually from this link.
