Video playback on Netflix capped at 480p on POCO F2 Pro after upgrading to MIUI 12.0.1.0

After nearly two years, waiting for the successor of the popular Pocophone F1, the company finally released the POCO F2 Pro. It debuted with Snapdragon 865 Octa-Core processor, paired with up to 8GB RAM, and runs Android 10 based on MIUI 11. And given how Xiaomi upgrades its device OS, the POCO F2 Pro is eligible for two OS upgrades, MIUI 12, and timely security patch, at least for the next couple of years.

Video playback on Netflix

As expected, a couple of weeks ago, a stable MIUI 12 got released for the device. It brought a slew of new features, which among them is smooth UI, floating windows, super wallpaper, unify font, enhanced security, among others. However, it seems the update ( MIUI 12.0.1.0 ) came along with a bug that affects video playback quality on Netflix.

According to a user on Mi community forum, the device video playback on Netflix seems to be “running in 480p video quality.” From the screenshot he posted, it shows the device supports Widevine L3 security level, and as such, the device can only play videos at sub-HD resolution. Only devices that are L1 compliant can playback videos on HD or higher quality content.

The issue has since been acknowledged by one of the moderators in the forum. According to him, the appropriate team is already aware of the issue, and they have promised a fix to come with the next update. However, it seems only the devices running MIUI 12.0.1.0 version of the MIUI 12 are the ones having this issue.

Have you received the MIUI 12 update on your POCO F2 Pro? We would like to know if your video playback on Netflix supports Full HD+. And if you’re facing the said issue on your device, we advise you to wait for the next update. That will probably bring back the Widevine L1 support on the device.
