Xiaomi is currently pushing the MIUI 12.5 and Android 11 update to eligible devices, but there’s no denying that the company is already working on MIUI 13. The company had earlier debunked the rumor that its next iteration of MIUI will arrive on June 25. However, with the way things are going, Xiaomi is likely to release MIUI 13 in the Q4 of this year. They’re already adapting some system apps to MIUI 13, with the recent MIUI cleaner app an indication of that. And according to reports, the latest closed beta update has added a new shutdown confirmation feature, probably another feature of the next iteration of MIUI.
The new MIUI 12.5 V21.6.21 is currently rolling out to Closed Beta groups in China. And as expected, it brings optimization and bug fixes, and of course, a new feature. It’s called shutdown confirmation and has been added to the security app, but unfortunately, it can work only on Chinese ROM. From the screenshot above, this feature protects your device from being powered off if stolen. That’s to say, before your device is turned off, there’ll be a shutdown confirmation confirming the owner is the one turning the phone off.
That’s quite impressive as it will be vital during phone theft and the process of recovering it. However, only the Chinese closed beta groups have received the new feature, and it’s still unclear when stable ROM users will get it. Global users, given the unfair treatment, when it comes to features, might receive the shutdown confirmation feature with MIUI 13. Meanwhile, if you’re running the Chinese Beta ROM or Xiaomi.EU ROM, you can enable the feature below.
How to enable the new Shutdown confirmation feature on Xiaomi phones
- Locate and open the Security App
- Click on “shutdown confirmation”
- Scroll up and enable the toggle
- Choose a unique pattern for your confirmation, and that’s all
- Now, before the device could be powered off, it will require the pattern
Note: I tried installing the APK on my global Xiaomi phone, it was successful. However, after launching the app, I didn’t see the “Shutdown confirmation feature.”
