Xiaomi is already rolling out the latest iteration of its MIUI Android skin, which brings improvement to the system. With MIUI 12.5, it’s now possible to uninstall some system apps while power consumption and background Memory usage have been reduced. Of course, there are a handful of other features, but with each new MIUI 12.5 beta update, Xiaomi seems to introduce new ones. According to a recent report, the latest MIUI 12.5 V21.5.18 beta update now allows turning off fingerprint unlock for lock screen.
Before this new update, there was no option to either turn on or off fingerprints on the lock screen. Apparently, that is enabled by default, but now you can decide to enable or disable that feature. Also, you can use fingerprints to lock apps and make payments as well. Unfortunately for now, only a few selected device users can decide “whether fingerprints recognition is applied on the lock screen switch.” These Xiaomi phones include Mi 9 Pro 5G, Redmi K30, Mi 10 Pro, Mi 10S, Mi 11, Redmi K30S Ultra, Redmi K40, Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11 Pro, Redmi K30 Ultra. Aside from the turning off fingerprint unlock for lock screen, the update supposedly fixes the problem with the face password page not entered occasionally. The affected models are Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11 Pro, Mi 10S, Mi 11, Mi 9.
At this point, it’s unclear when the stable ROM users will be able to switch off fingerprint unlock for lock screen. So far, only those participating in the closed beta testing are getting the new feature. Of course, it’s available for select devices, but we anticipate a wider rollout in the coming months.
Meanwhile, you should follow our MIUI 12.5 update tracker as that has got all the attention at the moment. Also, Android 12 beta 1 is available for select Xiaomi phones, which we covered in a separate post here.
