From reports coming out of China, all upcoming Xiaomi phones will have, at least 4500mAh battery, according to Redmi CEO. That easily explains why all the smartphones launched by the company this year debuted with a battery capacity above 4000mAh.
We have seen the Redmi K30 Pro and the Redmi Note 9 series debut with big battery capacity. Even the latest Mi series flagship phone saw a big leap in the battery capacity compared to the predecessor. The Mi 9 debuted with 3300mAh battery while Mi 10 series has a massive 4500mAh capacity.
According to Lui Weibing, president of Xiaomi in China and also Redmi CEO, this move is based on two fundamental reasons, which are related to the high energy consumption of recently released smartphones.
- The power consumption of 8 series processors [latest Qualcomm processor] is about 20% higher than that of 7 series;
- The power consumption of 5G mobile phones is about 20% higher than that of 4G mobile phones.
From what Weibing said, the latest mobile device with 8 series processor, a 5G support and a 4000mAh capacity, would deliver a battery life similar to what a 4G phone with a 3200mAh would offer. With that, we’ll definitely see all the upcoming Xiaomi phones debut with not less than 45000mAh battery.
He hinted that a minimum battery that should be integrated into a smartphone with 5G internet connectivity should exceed 4500mAh. The company is doing that already, with all the phones released so far all debuted with a massive battery. Redmi K30 Pro has a 4700mAh battery, Redmi Note 9S features a 5020mAh cell, while Xiaomi MI 10 Pro and Mi 10 have 4500mAh and 4780mAh batteries, respectively.
Also, coupled with the fact that 5G is growing very fast in China, the company already said it has no plan of announcing any device without 5G connectivity, at least in that country. Likely, we won’t see a new Xiaomi phone debut with a battery capacity of less than 4500mAh.
