Why it’s better to remain in Android Pie than upgrading to Android 10 on Xiaomi Mi A3

It’s all good with Xiaomi Android One phone until it’s time to update the operating system. Xiaomi released the Mi A3 last year running pure Android 10 and according to the Android One webpage, “Android One phones will receive at least two years of OS upgrades. With the latest version of Android, you’ll get software that auto-adjusts to your needs, and helps you get things done more easily throughout the day.”

Let’s ignore the part that said “at least” because Android 10 on Xiaomi Mi A3 will be the first OS upgrade. As such, the device should receive Android 11, but with all these that are happening, it will probably come Q4 2021.

Early this year, Xiaomi through its official Indian Twitter handle, promised Android 10 on Xiaomi Mi A3 to come in mid-February. However, the update didn’t arrive until the last day of February, and not only that it came after the said time frame, it was full of bugs. (You can check all the bugs from here)

It took only a few hours before users started reporting the buggy update. The company acknowledged the bugs, and the only option was to pull it, and they did.

What happened with Android 10 on Xiaomi Mi A3 is not different from that of Mi A2 Lite. The damage on the latter is even severe, which left some device bricked and lots of other bugs. We think the company horridly rolled out the updates because even after the first build was pulled, the fix they promised isn’t forthcoming. Instead, they are now sending the March security patch to users on Android Pie.

Considering all that has happened in the past few days, Xiaomi seems to have abandoned Android 10 for it’s Android One device. It’s better to remain on Android Pie until a fix for the buggy Android 10 update is released.
