As 5G gets prevalent in this modern-day, many carriers in the US are leaving out the 3G network. In 2021, most carriers in the US announced that they are phasing out of 3G Network, and as such most phones will not be able to make voice calls while streaming including emergency calls. Well, the Big G, Google, has seeded VoLTE roaming support for some Pixel users.
Pixel devices with the VoLTE roaming support
The June 2022 software update enabled VoLTE roaming support on a wide range of Pixel phones recently both on the US and global carriers. This means that many Google Pixel devices can make voice calls over LTE streaming. Here’s a list of the Pixel devices with the support:
- Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL
- Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL
- Pixel 4a and Pixel 4a 5G
- Pixel 5a and Pixel 5a 5G
- Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro
Sources say the update is probably the June security patch which is why the Pixel 3a and 3a XL got the update alongside other Pixel devices. However using VoLTE roaming support on the 2016 Pixel, Pixel 2, and Pixel 3 might give you home network issues and as such you have to upgrade to any of the aforementioned devices that has VoLTE roaming support enabled on your carrier.
This also applies to international customers who are living in the US and whose devices don’t have VoLTE roaming support, they will lose their connectivity so they should endeavor to reach out to their carrier if it has the feature.
