Latest Wear OS update breaks Raise to Wake gesture on Galaxy Watch 5

Raise to Wake gesture is a very common function on smartwatches, allowing users to read the time and/or notifications by simply lifting their wrist into view. In general, sensors on the wristwatch are used to do this. Unfortunately, the users of Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 5 can’t access the Raise to Wake gesture, no thanks to the latest WearOS update.

Further details on the Raise to Wake gesture malfunction

For certain Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 users, “raise to wake” causes the watch to automatically lock and return to sleep mode. Technically, unless more input is provided, the watch should always fall to sleep immediately after the Raise to Wake gesture is performed, yet users report this happening in seconds.

Several Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 4 owners have reported the issue on Reddit, and it has also appeared on Samsung’s support forums. Piunika Web was among the first to draw attention to the problem. A user also captured the problem in a video which you can access via the link at the end of the article.

It’s unclear whether Samsung is aware of the issue because the business hasn’t issued an official statement. This does not appear to be a particularly prevalent problem, but it does appear to afflict a significant number of people. Well, we hope the Korean tech giant looks into the matter as soon as possible so a fix can come in and end this inconvenient experience.
