Whatsapp multi-device support has been exclusive to desktops and laptops. The Whatsapp web feature allows you to maintain an active session with your computer without your mobile phone once connected. This particular feature has eluded smartphones and tablets these years, but it seems the company is now working on ‘WhatsApp companion mode’ to allow multi-device support.
From reports, evidence of the new WhatsApp companion mode was uncovered from the latest Whatsapp beta v2.22.11.10 for Android. According to the screenshot by Wabetainfo, the new feature being worked on will allow the connection of a secondary device to an existing Whatsapp account.
However, if the secondary device is logged into a Whatsapp account, linking your primary account to the device will wipe the existing data on the account. Hence, the company recommends backing up your data with Googe drive before using the Whatsapp companion mode.
We understand that the feature will also be coming to Apple iOS devices. Given that the WhatsApp companion mode is still in the beta phase, the same is being tested on WhatsApp beta for iOS. Unfortunately, there are no details about the WhatsApp companion mode for iOS nor when the company plans to release it to the public. However, we expect it to debut in the feature with support for Android Tablets and Maybe Chromebooks.
