It’s no news again that Xiaomi has suspended the development of Mi A-series phones. Although the company didn’t confirm that publicly, that’s now certain as the successor to the Mi A3 never came. The Xiaomi Mi A3 is the only Xiaomi Mi A series phone eligible for the Android 11 update, which started rolling out yesterday. Unfortunately, it was another disaster as all those that updated had their phones dead (hard brick). The company has acknowledged the issue and promised a fix, but we are yet to learn how they’ll do that.
The company will probably employ the same strategy it used for the Mi A2 Lite users. When Xiaomi rolled out Android 10 at the beginning of last year to the device, there was a report of bricked phones. They took responsibility and fixed the phones for affected users.
That probably won’t happen again, at least, not with an OS upgrade. The phone OS support elapsed with Android 10. And as for the security patch update, there are some months left for that. Most people have asked when the security patch update will end for Mi A2 Lite. We’ll try to explain that below.
When the security patch update will end for Mi A2 Lite
According to the Android One policy, every phone on the Android One program is entitled to at least two OS upgrades and three years of security support. Xiaomi released the Mi A2 Lite in July 2018. The device debuted with Android 8.1 and has picked two Android OS: Android 9 and 10 on the road, and hence, not eligible for Android 11.
As for security patch updates, the Mi A2 Lite has got roughly seven months in the bag. The device, going by the Android One policy, will receive its last security patch in July.
