We have seen smartphone companies extend their support period in the past few months. The likes of Google and Samsung lead on that front, with Xiaomi not too far behind. The Chinese company announced a five-year support period when they released the Xiaomi 13T series, but it doesn’t apply to all their phones.
Xiaomi has many phones in the market, especially mid-range devices. It’s always impossible to support these phones for up to five years. Hence, only select phones get updated for that long, and most times, they are premium phones with mid-range devices limited to three or two years of security support. This uncertainty makes it difficult to say for sure how long your device will get an update, but with the new development, the company has put an end to that.
Xiaomi has a page for all their phones that have reached EoL (End of Life). The company is making some changes, adding a new page where users can check the support period of their Xiaomi phones. Of course, it includes Redmi and POCO phones. We understand the new page on their Trust Center doesn’t list only AER-supported phones but almost all phones available on the global market.
With the new development, it is easy to know when your Xiaomi phone will stop getting updates. In addition, choosing a new smartphone will not be stressful if you prioritize security support. Also, the question of whether my phone will get the new Android or HyperOS update will be reduced.
About Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO phones getting the new Android and HyperOS updates, these upgrades are expected later in the year. Hence, if your device support period extends to next year, there is a chance you will get the update. Besides, you can check that for yourself here.
Interestingly, you can check the support period for IoT devices on the page. Tap on the IoT Devices tab on the right side of the page to list all available devices. You can use the search button to search for your device, and you will see when it will stop getting updates. You will also know when these devices are launched, which might interest some people.
