Xiaomi promises 4 major Android OS updates and 5 years of security support
The introduction of the Xiaomi 13T series will see the company make adjustments to its update policy. It has been three major OS upgrades for premium Xiaomi phones and four years of security support, but that will change once the 13T series goes official.
Last year, during the unveiling of the Xiaomi 12T series, the company announced four years of security support and three years of Android OS updates. A year on, the company is changing to four Android OS upgrades and five years of security support.
Perhaps, seeing Samsung and Google support their device for years, Xiaomi deemed it necessary to follow the same route. However, the company didn’t say if other devices will get four years of Android OS upgrades or just the Xiaomi 13T series. Nevertheless, we believe premium Xiaomi phones will participate in the new update policy.
We expect the Xiaomi 13T series to debut with Android 13 based on MIUI 14 on September 26, 2023. Hence, the device will receive an Android 17 update and one year of security patch updates after that. It means Xiaomi will support the duo till 2030, which is encouraging if you use your Android phone for years.
