Xiaomi MIUI keeps getting better with every new iteration, and with the latest version (MIUI 12.5), the company seems to have got many things right. Of course, there is still room for improvement, and with how new features are released with each closed beta build, Xiaomi is have more improvement coming to MIUI. However, the system stability needs few touches to address some issues faced by Mi Fans after upgrading their phone. Sometimes, it can be hard-brick, which is why we recommend a backup before downloading and installing any MIUI build.
Fortunately, Xiaomi is making it easy by introducing a new local backup option. The new local backup option lets you backup your images, audio, videos, and other files to your computer. Interestingly, you also can backup your contacts, messages, system app data, third-party app data, and more. Before, you are only allowed to backup contacts, call history, SMS, system app data, and third-party apps data. Apparently, now you can back up every file on your device with the new local backup option.
Meanwhile, the new local backup has been introduced with the recent China Close beta update. It has a version number – MIUI 12.5 V21.8.30, meaning it was seeded on August 30. If you’re in the closed beta group, you should have gotten the update by now. As usual, only those participating can explore the new addition, except you’re using the Xiaomi.EU ROM. Hopefully, these new additions will come to stable ROM users with MIUI 13.
How to use the new local backup option
- Step 1. Head over to Settings and use the search bar to locate ‘Backup and restore’
- Step 2. Select the files to backup
- Step 3. Wait until all the items are backed up
- Step 4. Go to File Manager – MIUI – Backup – All Backup
- Step 5. Connect your device to a PC and transfer all files there
