The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 might be a flagship phone, but the software support it has got after hitting the shelves has been underwhelming. That was the situation of the Mi Mix 3 5G until recently. The device now runs MIUI 12 and has been receiving monthly security patches. It is still stuck on Android 9 though, and it seems Xiaomi isn’t planning to upgrade the device anytime soon. And from the look of things, the Mi Mix 3 Android 11 update is a doubt as well. A Moderator in the Mi community forum suggests the update is unlikely. However, odd is in favor of the device to receive Android 11.
While Samsung and some OEM have defined their update policy, Xiaomi seems to be overlooking it. However, from the unofficial company’s update policy, flagship Xiaomi phones are entitled to two OS upgrades. Also, phones launched under the Mi series get two OS updates, and that makes the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 Android 11 update a possibility. Although the device is eligible for the update, we can’t trust Xiaomi on that. We have seen the company abandon its device, as in the case of Mix 3 5G. Also, there are no plans at the moment to upgrade the device to Android 11.
Nevertheless, we believe the update will still arrive going by Xiaomi track records. Take the Mi Max 3 as an example. It was launched under the Mi series running Android 8.1 and has picked two OS upgrades: Android 9 and 10. That makes us believe that Mi Mix 3 will receive Android 11, eventually. But again, Xiaomi developers now have much load with the company releasing new phones almost every month. That’s probably why the Mix 3 looks like it has been abandoned, but expect a new update in the coming weeks.
