After nearly three years, Xiaomi, on August 10, introduced the true successor of the Mi Mix 3 – Mi Mix 4. The event also saw that company back in the Tablet market with two high-end units – Mi Pad 5 and Mi Pad 5 Pro. We anticipate the global availability soon, given the recent reports. Meanwhile, the trio runs MIUI on top of Android outside of the box, which makes them eligible for the MIUI development program.
The MIUI development program is where Xiaomi tests new features for its products. There, selected users preview MIUI builds, provide feedback, and make suggestions on how to improve MIUI. That has been going on for a while, and the latest to receive the MIUI development version for the first time, are the recently released Mi Pad 5, Mi Pad 5 Pro, and Mi Mix 4. They’re receiving the build with the recently released MIUI 12 V21.8.20. From the release Note, the build has addressed some important issues and improved performance.
Going by the update log, the new update has fixed the missing rounded corners of floating windows. It’s unclear if that fixed the chat bubbles as well, but we hope to find out. Also, the flickering screen issue in Xiaomi Mi 10 is addressed in this build, and also the issue with occasional lock screen jittering when the bright screen is lifted.

Update: August 30, 2021
Xiaomi has now released the MIUI development ROM for these phones. It carries a software version number – MIUI 12.5 V21.8.25 – meaning it was released a couple of days ago. You can download the correct ROM version of your device below.
