The legend lives on as Xiaomi officially introduces the Redmi Note 9. The Pro and Max variants are not on sale in China but have made their global debut alongside the regular variant.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 revolves around a 6.53-inch FullHD+ display with a 90% body-to-screen ratio. The dot display panel supports 450nits (typ) brightness, 1500:1 (typ) contrast, and 84% (typ) NTSC color gamut. It’s also TÜV Rheinland low blue light certified, with support for sunlight mode and reading mode 2.0. The panel is protected with a Corning Gorilla Glass 5, which is also resistant to scratch to complement the splash-proof nano-coating.
Unlike the predecessor that makes use of Snapdragon 665 SoC, the Redmi Note 9 uses a Mediatek G85 Octa-Core processor. According to Xiaomi, they improved the performance of Note 9 by 21% compared to the Note 8, which they proved with a benchmark score of both devices. The former has a 3GB RAM and a 4GB RAM model paired with up to 128GB. Unfortunately, it runs MIUI 11 outside-of-the-box instead of MIUI 12, but on the flip side, it’s based on Android 10
The camera at the back is a quad lens arranged in a square plate with the LED flash and fingerprint scanner coming just below it. The arrangement consists of a primary Samsung GM1 48MP shooter, 8MP ultra-wide-angle, 2MP depth, and 2MP macro shooter. On the front panel, secured into a punch hole, a 13MP selfie shooter with face unlocks support.
Redmi Note 9 packs a massive 5020mAh battery and supports 18W fast charging. The device will ship with a 22.5W fast charger instead, and that should give you a fully Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 under 120 minutes. Other features of the device include an IR Blaster, 3.5mm headphone jack, NFC, and a document scanner.
