The time has come for smartphone OEMs to improve on their support period. As expected, Google led the way promising three Android OS updates before Samsung joined the party. Meanwhile, going by recent reports, it seems Google will be committing to five Android OS updates, perhaps, security support. And all this while, Xiaomi has maintained its two Android OS updates but is gradually moving to three Android OS updates.
Xiaomi, during the unveiling of the Xiaomi 11T and 11T Pro, announced it’ll support the duo for four years. In that period, the device will get three new Android OS updates. And having debuted with Android 11 means the duo will receive up to Android 14. That’s commendable, and hopefully, it will see Mi fans hang on to their phones for a longer time.
Also, the Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G that launched together with the Xiaomi 11T series will receive three Android OS updates. So far, only the three phones have been confirmed for the new policy, but we expect the list to expand going forward. Meanwhile, it’s important to note that the list of Xiaomi phones to receive three Android OS updates is available globally. None of the devices is sold in China, and hence, we expect the Chinese announcement soon.
Hopefully, Xiaomi will include the Xiaomi Mi 11 series in this list. That said, we will keep monitoring the situation and will update this space once more devices make it to the list. For now, below is the list of Xiaomi phones to receive three Android OS updates.
