Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Android 10 update has been in Closed beta testing for a while now, which is the reason why the device isn’t participating in Closed beta testing for MIUI 12. A previous report has it that the Android 10 update will arrive with MIUI 12, and with the latest development, that’s likely to be true.
After the release of MIUI 12, which is now in Closed Beta testing, the Redmi Note 8 wasn’t on the official list of devices to participate in Closed Beta testing. The device debuted last year, with a Snapdragon 665 Octa-Core processor, and runs Android 9 outside-of-the-box on top MIUI 11. Unfortunately, it is yet to upgrade to Android 10, but there now seems to be light at the end of the tunnel.
According to a Moderator in the Mi community forum in response to a user query, regarding the possibility of Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Android 10 update arriving before the MIUI 12 update, or if there will be no updates before the MIUI 12. He replied saying;
No, for china rom its under internal testing along with Android 10 so update will include Android 10+MIUI 12. Its subject to change

From the conversation, it means Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Android 10 update will arrive with the MIUI 12. Thus, the device won’t be getting any update at least till July, considering when MIUI 12 will be hitting the Redmi Note 8. That’s roughly three months before the Redmi Note 8 gets a new update.
Meanwhile, the moderator added that “it’s subject to change” which is most likely. Three months is a long time to wait for an update, and considering the schedule for the update, it might even be longer.
Also, with Redmi Note 8 in closed Beta testing for Android 10 and an early report claiming that the next update on the device, will be based on Android 10 ( Chinese model), it means the device won’t be getting any update for three months at a minimum.
Nevertheless, we hope to get a clear picture in the coming weeks, but we might see the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Android 10 update arrive before the MIUI 12 update.
