Xiaomi has been swiftly pushing the stable MIUI 12.5 build to eligible phones in the last couple of weeks as they look to focus on MIUI 13. In China, almost all the eligible phones have bagged the update, while one device has been waiting. And finally, the wait is over as Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 MIUI 12.5 update starts seeding. It’s the Chinese version of the phone getting the much-anticipated upgrade. However, we expect the global rollout in the coming weeks as usual if nothing goes south.
The Redmi Note 8 MIUI 12.5 update is seeding for eligible users with a version number – MIUI 12.5.1.0 RCOCNXM. It brings the features of the new MIUI OS. They include instant response to gestures, more rendering power, reduced power consumption and background memory, revamped Note app. These features are essentially an improvement to address the bug left by MIUI 12. But while some have been addressed, the third-party launcher compatibility issue is still there. Also, you’ll continue seeing the ugly square chat bubbles.
Importantly, after upgrading to MIUI 12.5, Google Play Services will stop working. Although you can install it via Google installer, it will keep crashing. That’s because Xiaomi has disabled Google Service Framework on some of its Chinese phones. Unfortunately, there is no way to fix that unless you flash the global ROM on your device. And if you wish to continue, you can find the links to download the ROM below.
Again, it’s the Chinese Redmi Note 8 MIUI 12.5 update that’s rolling out. If everything goes smoothly, we expect the global rollout in the coming days. But you can follow our tracker page to know when the update becomes available in your region.
