Xiaomi security patch updates: Devices eligible for three years of security support

Perhaps, Xiaomi security patch updates are released every one to three months, but confusing when it comes to Android OS updates. That’s because, new MIUI version isn’t related to the Android upgrade, which makes it difficult to know if your Xiaomi phone is eligible for a new OS update. Initially, it was believed the company doesn’t have an update policy, but they do. According to the company policy, most phones launched under Mi, Redmi, and POCO branding are eligible for three years of a security patch update.

The company recently released an updated security patch update schedule for its phones. It has over 60 phones consisting of Mi, Redmi, and POCO phones eligible for security updates from Google. And from the listing, Xiaomi phones are due for three years of security support, including those launched under the Mi A-series. However, the company is yet to define its Android OS support period, with the plan hinting at just one OS upgrade. Meanwhile, these phones listed, depending, either get monthly or quarterly security patch update. Perhaps, the only phones on the list that gets monthly security patch update are the ones launched under the Android One program. Even Xiaomi flagship phones don’t receive monthly updates, but quarterly.
