It has been weeks since Xiaomi started pushing March security updates to the Redmi 9 units. The rollout started in India, and after some days, it extended to Europe and Russia. We thought Xiaomi plan to start the Android 11 rollout globally, given the delay in pushing the March patch. Unfortunately, that wasn’t it as a new global stable Redmi 9 update started seeding without a new OS. It’s a security build that brings the latest patch to increase system security.
The Redmi 9 users will have to wait a bit longer before adopting the Android 11 build. And maybe Xiaomi plans to roll out a new Android OS and MIUI 12.5 simultaneously. Going by the list release during the presentation of MIUI 12.5, the Redmi 9 is the only entry-level phone that’ll get the update on Q2 of this year. We hope to see a wider rollout at the end of this month, and that’s a reason to install the new stable Redmi 9 update.
It comes in a 562MB package, with a version number – MIUI 12.0.4.0 QJCMIXM. That size is big for a patch build, which hints at additional bug fixes aside from increasing the device security. The update probably fortifies the device ahead of future Android and MIUI OS upgrades. More importantly, it’s the safe, and hence, you should download and install it when prompted.
Meanwhile, the update will arrive only for few users, pending the outcome of the preview. It’s to last for a few days, and if at the end no bug is detected, the public rollout will commence immediately. However, you can use the link below for a manual installation, but that occasionally returns an error. You need an authorized Mi Account or a TWRP Recovery flashed to bypass the server lock.
