The Mi 8 SE is the latest phone in the stables of Xiaomi to start receiving a stable MIUI 12.5 update. It’s a Chinese release, but that means the update will extend to global variants soon. The Xiaomi Mi 8 SE MIUI 12.5 update is based on Android 10, which was expected, given that the device has already elapsed its Android OS support. However, with the features baked inside the current MIUI build, a few Android 11 features would be missing after upgrading your device. And as usual, you’ll have to wait for some time as the rollout is limited to select users.
It’s expected to be a busy week for the Chinese company with MIUI 12.5 deployment. Xiaomi will announce MIUI 13 in the coming weeks, and they’ll look to finalize the current rollout to focus on the next version. Naturally, it will take a couple of days for the update to arrive in other regions. The update is seeding with a version number – MIUI 12.5.1.0 QEBCNXM – and weighs in at 722MB. It brings the features of MIUI 12.5 to improve performance and address some of the bugs left by MIUI 12.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 SE MIUI 12.5 update also bumped the Android security patch level to May 2021 to increase system security and stability.
