Xiaomi has been working on improving its MIUI Android skin for the past couple of months. The introduction of MIUI 12 saw a total revamp of the UI, and that left some serious bugs. It is probably what triggered the release of MIUI 12.5, but it seems that alone couldn’t address the issues. The company then released an Enhanced Edition of the update, which will arrive on a global model next month. While they’re trying to address all these issues facing MIUI, the company is replacing the update app with Google one on some phones. It was the Redmi Note 8 Pro that saw the changes first. Also, the Redmi Note 9 Pro update app has been replaced with the recent update.

The Reason for replacing the Redmi Note 9 Pro updater app with Google’s is the same as why it happened on Redmi Note 8 Pro. Xiaomi, due to some changes made on the server, has decided that the recent development is the best way to be rolling out updates to its device users. It’s expected to improve OTAs downloads, which sometimes disappear after sitting on the updater app for some time.

The updater app has lost all the MIUI animations. It now looks like that of stock Android, which can be found on Mi A series phone. However, that hasn’t changed the update policy, as you will continue to receive updates quarterly. Also, it seems the changes are exclusive to Indians at the moment, as only the MIUI 12.5 rollout in that region had the change on the update log. Hence, if you have just upgraded your Redmi Note 9 Pro to MIUI 12.5, you might need to look at the updater app.

That said, you shouldn’t panic if you notice the changes. It’s not a bug, but to improve update downloading speed. It says in the update log that “All upcoming system updates will be provided by Google.” For that, there’s always a new to replace the Redmi Note 9 Pro updater app.
