If you own a Chromebook with a touchscreen, there’s a useful accessibility feature called tap dragging that allows you to easily move windows and other objects on your screen with just a double tap of your finger. This feature is not enabled by default, so here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use tap dragging on your Chromebook.

To begin using the tap-dragging feature on your Chromebook, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Access ChromeOS Settings App

Click on the time in the bottom right corner of your screen, and then click on the gear icon to access the Settings app.

Step 2: Select the Device

Once you’re in the Settings app, click on the “Device” option in the sidebar to access touchpad settings.

Step 3: Enable Tap Dragging

Next, select “Touchpad” and make sure the toggle switch for “Enable tap dragging” is blue and turned on.

That’s it! With tap dragging now enabled, you can use this feature to move windows and other objects around your screen with ease. For instance, if you’re using the Files app and want to move a file to a different folder, you can simply double-tap the file and drag it to its new location.

Get access to other useful features

In addition, to tap dragging, there are other accessibility features available on ChromeOS that you may find useful. From the same Settings page, you can adjust the speed of your trackpad, enable tap-to-click, and even reverse your scrolling if you’re more comfortable with a MacBook’s touchpad.

ChromeOS also includes other accessibility features such as reading mode, high contrast mode, and button navigation for touchscreen Chromebooks. If you need a screen reader, you can try ChromeVox, which can read web pages out loud and support keyboard shortcuts.

Final Words

In conclusion, tap dragging is a useful feature that can save time and effort when moving objects around your Chromebook’s screen. Enabling it is quick and easy, and there are other accessibility features available on ChromeOS that can enhance your experience. If you have any questions or need further assistance, don’t hesitate to explore the ChromeOS Help Center or contact Google support.
