[Update: September 15] Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 receives a massive February security patch update

A new Redmi Note 8 update has been released. Download below…

Xiaomi has been busy with the Android 12 and MIUI 13 update deployment, but they haven’t given up on their most popular budget phone of the last decade. Interestingly, the device has been confirmed to release the current iteration of MIUI, but no Android OS upgrade. Perhaps, for that reason, a new Redmi Note 8 update has been released to fortify the device ahead of the planned upgrade.

New global Redmi Note 8 update

On December 21, 2021, we reported that Xiaomi started MIUI 13 internal testing for the Redmi Note 8. The device, unfortunately, wouldn’t receive Android 12 with the build, as it has elapsed its OS upgrade support. However, the device hasn’t been abandoned, although it’s been long since it stopped participating in closed beta testing. And going by the latest development, the device could soon get the stable MIUI 13 update, as the new global Redmi Note 8 update points towards that direction.

Xiaomi has released a massive February security patch update to the global users of the Redmi Note 8. The update has a version number – MIUI 12.5.2.0 RCOMIXM. It weighs a massive 829MB, hinting at some bug fixes and optimizations ahead of the planned MIUI 13 upgrade. Seemingly, the update has bumped the Android security patch to February 2022, perhaps the first Xiaomi device running MIUI to do so.

Aside from bumping the security patch level, the build has improved performance and stability. According to reports, it has supposedly removed the control center blur background to reintroduce the gray one. Meanwhile, that seems to be the only negative thing about the update, as it seems not to break anything.

Of course, the new global Redmi Note 8 update is on a limited rollout at the moment. Only Mi Pilots members are getting the update, and we hope for the public release in the coming days. However, you can follow the link below and download the ROM.

Lastly, it’s unclear when the Redmi Note 8 MIUI 13 update will be released. But given how Xiaomi pushes updates (three months intervals), it might be the next update to arrive for the device. That said, you should keep an eye on our tracker page to know when the update goes live.
