Xiaomi has now turned to the Redmi Note 9 series – months ago it looked like they abandoned the phones. They first started pushing a new Android 11 based MIUI 12 update to the Redmi Note 9 Pro in India and followed it up with a security patch update to the global Note 9 Pro. After some hours, a new update for the Redmi Note 9S started pushing in Europe. The update is now arriving for the global users, while the Redmi Note 9 Pro in Europe is also getting a new update.

Unfortunately, the new update for the Redmi Note 9S and Note 9 Pro fails to bring neither Android 11 nor MIUI 12.5. The latter is still under testing and will start seeding in April, while Android 11 has been ready since last year and has remained in India. However, Xiaomi may be fortifying these phones ahead of the new Android version upgrade and we expect to see the update before MIUI 12.5 gets underway. 

Meanwhile, the updates, for now, will arrive for a selected few users, and if everything goes smoothly, the public rollout should be days away. It will arrive on the Redmi Note 9S as MIUI 12.0.3.0 QJWMIXM. The build weighs in at about 322MB and bumps the Android security patch level to January 2021. Those in Europe and using the Redmi Note 9 Pro will get an update with a version number – MIUI 12.0.2.0 QJZEUXM. It weighs in at 288MB and will arrive via OTA as well. The update bumps the security patch to January, improved system security and stability, and fixed bugs. 

From the feedback, the new update for the Redmi Note 9S and Note 9 Pro is safe. You should download and install when prompted to fortify your device ahead of the Android 11 upgrade.
