As expected after the Chinese release, Xiaomi is now pushing a stable Android 11-based MIUI 12.5 update for the global Mi 9T Pro. The device was always going to get the update, having picked only one Android OS update. It became imminent a few weeks ago after the Chinese release, and according to reports, Xiaomi has released the update. However, the update is on a limited rollout and will take some time before it’s available for the public.
For weeks now, all MIUI updates are strictly a limited rollout at first before public release. The reason is to reduce the bugs and issues that are reported after each release. Also, to manage any damage that might arise due to a fault build. Hence, the Android 11-based MIUI 12.5 update for the global Mi 9T Pro might take time before hitting all eligible users. However, if you’re a registered Mi beta tester, you can download the ROM below and flash it manually.
The update has a version number – MIUI 12.5.1.0 RFKMIXM – and as expected, brings the features of the new MIUI OS. That has reduced power consumption and background memory usage, and with some optimization, MIUI has become smoother, faster, and lighter. It also makes it possible to uninstall some system apps, but for some reason, that’s currently not working. Aside from features of the new iteration of MIUI, the update has pushed the Android version to 11 and security patch level to May 2021 to increase system security.
Meanwhile, with the issues encountered by early Android 11 adopters, we recommend that you backup your data before upgrading. Also, after upgrading to Android 11, third-party launchers stop working on gestures, and hence, you will have to revert to the system launcher. And while factory reset can help fix some issues and lags, it won’t solve the launcher and square chat bubbles problems.
