Sources have discovered another feature present in the amazing Android 14. It’s the Android 14 battery health feature for showing important battery stats. For reference, this Android 14 battery health feature is similar to the iOS feature that shows the maximum battery capacity of an iPhone – in the battery section of Settings.

Further details on the Android 14 battery health feature

In the Android 14 beta, Google has introduced several new BatteryManager APIs, as reported by Mishaal Rahman. Among these APIs, two are public and provide information about cycle count and charging status, while the remaining APIs are system-level and offer details such as the device’s production date, date of first use, charging policy, and state of health.

The system APIs can be accessed by any program with the BATTERY_STATS permission, but they are currently limited to Pixel smartphones running Android 14 Beta 2 or later. Narek has developed the Batt app, which utilizes these new APIs to provide battery status and charge cycle information. You can find the app on GitLab and try it on your Android 14 device.

It’s important to note that the accuracy of the app’s data is reliant on the information returned by the APIs, which in turn depends on the monitoring capabilities of the charging IC and the support provided by the HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer). Hopefully, Google will introduce the Android 14 battery health feature in the stable release, eliminating the need for third-party apps like Batt to monitor battery health.
