Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 7 seires in early 2019, and in July, they introduced the Mi CC9 series. Ever since then, the company has been pushing the MIUI development version to the device. However, according to a recent report, Xiaomi has added Redmi Note 7 Pro, Redmi Note 7, and Mi CC9e added to the list of phones that’ll stop the development version internal beta test.
The MIUI development version is where Xiaomi tests new features before pushing it to the public. Take, for example, the MIUI 12.5 update. Even before Xiaomi announced unveiling a new iteration of MIUI, they have already pushed most of its features to closed beta groups. And unfortunately for the Redmi Note 7 Pro, Note 7, and Mi CC9e, this could be their last bite. They’ll stop participating in MIUI development version internal test and all the benefits that come with it.
Also, it means the devices won’t be getting regular updates as before. Before the latest report, Xiaomi only pushed a new update to these phones every three months, and now, it should take longer. And with time, updates would come only on rare occasions just like on the Redmi Note 5 and Note 6 series.
Meanwhile, the latest development will take effect as of April 24th. By that time, it would have been more than two years’ support for the Redmi Note 7 series and roughly the same for the Mi CC9e. Both phones will receive the MIUI 12.5 update and are currently testing the build internally.
The stable version of the MIUI 12.5 update will start rolling out in April, which is the period the above-mentioned phones will be ax from the MIUI development version internal beta test. If you want to keep receiving frequent updates and participate in closed beta tests, you should upgrade to a new phone. Note that the phone must be running Chinese ROM.
