MediaTek Dimensity 9300 Octa-Core SoC released to take on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

Dimensity 9300 Octa-Core is the latest flagship SoC from MediaTek that will compete with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The former is arguably what features in most flagship Android phones, but it will be good to see a change.

Dimensity 9300

Qualcomm and MediaTek’s latest flagship SoCs are built on the 4nm process, with their most important feature being the all-big core CPU design. Dimensity 9300 has a single prime Cotex-X4 core at 3.25GHz, 3 Cortex-X4 cores at 2.85GHz, and 4 Cortex-A720 cores at 2.0GHz, which promises 40% improvement over the predecessor while using 33% less power.

Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has a single Cortex-X4 prime core running at 3.3GHz, slightly higher than Dimensity 9300, while there are five performance cores at 3.2GHz instead of 4. There are two efficient cores clocked at 2.3GHz, which is higher than MediaTek’s flagship SoC.

MediaTek Dimensity 9300 boasts a 46% improvement over the predecessor with the 12-core Immortalis-G720 GPU with hardware-based tracing. Interestingly, MediaTek achieved this while reducing power consumption by 40%. Qualcomm’s Adreno delivers 30% improved performance and 20% more power efficiency than its predecessor.

While Dimensity 9300 supports the latest LPDDR5T RAM @ 9,600Mbps and UFS 4.0 storage with Multi-Circular Queue (MCQ) support, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 LPDDR5x RAM up to 4800MHz and as much as 24GB. Both SoCs support Wi-Fi 7 and 6GHz/mmWave.

Dimensity 9300 uses Imagip 990 ISP with always-on HDR and standalone image stabilization. It supports up to 320MP single camera while Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 supports up to 200MP. Both can shoot 8k@30fps and 4k@60/120fps.

Dimensity 9300 supports up to WQHD resolution at 180Hz, while the maximum on-device display Resolution for Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is 4k Ultra HD @ 6Hz, QHD+ @144Hz. Meanwhile, the maximum external display Resolution can reach 8K@30Hz on Qualcomm’s flagship SoC.

Both integrate AI, with MediaTek trusting the APU 790, while Qualcomm uses its Sensing Hub. Both support generative AI with up to 33 billion parameters for Dimensity 9300 and 10 billion parameters on SD 8 Gen 3.
