Galaxy S23 One UI 6.1 update limits charging to 15 W, according to reports

Samsung started rolling out the One UI 6.1 update to the Galaxy S23 series across the globe. The update is also rolling out to the Galaxy S23 FE, which introduced the Galaxy AI features, along with system improvement and performance. However, it seems the charging performance has degraded, as users report that charging has been limited to 15 W after upgrading.

The Galaxy S23 charges at 25 W maximum speed, but the device seems to charge at 15 W after the latest upgrade. According to a report from the UAE Samsung community forum, a user claims the charging speed of his S23 after upgrading to One UI 6.1 is 15 W. A screenshot showing the battery statistics with the Electron app was posted on the forum.

It confirms that the device is indeed charging at 15 W. Those in X, formerly known as Twitter agree with the claim when asked if they are experiencing the same issue. However, according to the test carried out by folks on Sammobile, the claims don’t seem to be true.

They tested the Galaxy S23 running One UI 6.1 using a 120 W PPS charger, and the charging speed was 20 W, 5 W lower than the company standard. However, we understand the phone tested charges at 25 W occasionally and sometimes charges at 20 W in One UI 6.0. It is important to note that the charging speed drops as the battery percentage increases. It could be that those reporting a slow charging speed had a higher battery percentage.

So far, only users using the Electron app to check the charging wattage are reporting the issue, which could be a problem from the app. Perhaps One UI 6.1 is restricting some battery information from the app, hence, the wrong charging speed. We hope for more confirmation in the coming days.
