Google has introduced a significant update to Google Maps, specifically tailored to electric vehicle (EV) drivers. The latest Google Maps update aims to provide a more relevant and tailored experience for EV drivers by removing gas stations as a category in Google Maps while using Android Auto.
Details of the latest Google Maps update
Google Maps now prioritizes information that is more relevant to EV drivers. With this update, gas stations will no longer be visible as a category for users driving electric cars. Instead, the top item displayed will be EV charging stations, ensuring that EV drivers have access to the most pertinent information for their journey.
Users can easily locate nearby charging stations by searching for “ev charging stations” in Google Maps. The Google Maps update provides real-time availability information for charging ports at these stations, enabling EV drivers to avoid waiting in line and plan their charging stops more efficiently.
Google Maps introduces filtering options for charging stations based on charging speed. Users can choose to view “very fast” charging stations with chargers of 150 kilowatts or higher, enabling rapid charging in under 40 minutes. The “fast” charging filter displays stations with chargers of 50 kW or higher.
The Google Maps update also allows users to filter charging stations based on the plug type compatible with their specific EV. This feature ensures that users only see stations equipped with plugs that can accommodate their vehicle.
For trips that require charging stops, Google Maps will suggest the most suitable charging locations based on factors such as traffic conditions, current battery charge level, and projected energy consumption.
Google Maps now highlights the presence of charging stations at various establishments, such as supermarkets, directly in search results. This feature helps users identify places where they can charge their EV while carrying out other tasks, like grocery shopping.
The latest Google Maps update reflects the company’s commitment to providing tailored and useful information to the growing community of electric vehicle drivers. The focus on EV charging facilities and enhanced features for EV-specific needs demonstrates Google’s effort to streamline the navigation experience for this group of users.
