Google Pixel 8 users report poor battery life

After the official release of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, Google started shipping the devices to those who pre-ordered. The early reviews suggested Google has improved on the overheating issues reported by Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 Pro users, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. It seems the Pixel 8 series phones still get warm, causing a poor battery life.

Google Pixel 8 poor battery life issue

One of the issues that has affected previous Pixel phones is overheating. With the release of Pixel 8 and the early reviews, we thought Google had finally addressed the issue, but recent reports suggest the overheating problems are still there. However, it seems the device doesn’t get as warm as the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 when they were released, but they get warm enough to cause battery drain.

It’s no news that Tensor-powered Pixel phones find it difficult to keep the thermal condition down, which results in overheating. Of course, that causes poor battery life, but it seems to affect users on mobile data, hinting that the Samsung modem used for these phones is the problem.

There’s no official fix, and we don’t think Google will release any, given that they somehow tried to address the issue in Android 14. However, you can use Wi-Fi instead of mobile data to keep the thermal condition down, which will, in turn, improve your device’s battery life.

How to fix the Google Pixel 8 poor battery life issue

There’s no official fix to address the poor battery issue when using mobile data. You can improve your battery life and reduce overheating when you connect to Wi-Fi. Hence, if you’re experiencing battery drain with your Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, you should consider using a Wi-Fi network.
