Google Pixel owners are experiencing app crashing

Google Pixel owners are currently grappling with app crashing issues, experiencing sudden termination of both Google and third-party Android apps upon launching them. While the problem has not affected all users, it has become a cause of concern for some, prompting attempts at finding viable solutions. Let’s delve into the details surrounding this recent problem.

Google Pixel App crashing: further details

Reports of app crashes have emerged from Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 users, with apps like Chrome Beta (version 115) being particularly affected. Some individuals have found a temporary fix by rebooting their impacted devices running the latest Android 13 QPR3 stable release with the July security patch. However, this solution does not seem to work for everyone.

While rebooting the devices worked for some, others have attempted to enter safe mode, only to find that it did not resolve the issue. One user reported resorting to a complete device reset and restoration from backup to address the persistent app crashing problem.

A notable observation made by affected users is that the system update page is not loading correctly, displaying only a blank white screen. This points to a possible connection with Google Play services, which provides the UI for this page. The current version of Google Play services (23.25.17, 190400-548553588) has come under scrutiny as a potential culprit for the app crashes.

While the app crashing incidents have garnered attention on Reddit and other platforms, it is essential to note that the problem does not seem to be widespread, and not all Pixel users have been affected. As of now, there have been no reports of similar issues with other smartphone manufacturers.

Interestingly, this app crashing problem appears to differ from a previous incident in 2021, where faulty Android System WebView updates were responsible for app crashes. At present, the cause of the issue remains uncertain, and it may require further investigation to determine the root cause.

While we wait for an official fix from Google, you might resolve the issue by uninstalling and reinstalling affected apps. According to multiple users, that seems to fix the issue for them, and we recommend that you try that.
