Xiaomi has since suspended the Android One program. The move was probably due to the buggy updates, but that hasn’t stopped the monthly security patch builds seeding. Besides, only the Xiaomi Android One phones with active support are the ones getting updated monthly. The ones running MIUI get updated quarterly, which is always due for a change. As expected, the company is now seeding the July security patch update for Mi A2 a few hours after Mi A2 Lite bagged the build. And going by the Android One Policy, this could be the last of the bunch.
Xiaomi released the Mi A2 in July 2018, running Android 8.1 Oreo. It has received two Android OS: Android 9 and 10. Of course, it has been receiving monthly security patch updates all this time. However, according to Android One Policy, it is only for three years. And since the device debuted in July of 2018, the latest July security patch update for Mi A2 is seemingly the last, and what a journey it has been if that is the case.
Meanwhile, the update is seeding for the global variants to optimize performance and reduce lag. It has a version number – V11.0.28.0 QDIMIXM, and it is based on Android 10. There’s no plan to upgrade the device to Android 11 as it has elapsed its Is support and will supposedly stop receiving updates after this one. Hence, it’s recommended that you download the update to fortify your device and fix some security vulnerabilities. The only way to upgrade your Mi A2 to a newer Android version is by flashing custom ROM.
