Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G gets the December security patch update
For a Xiaomi phone that sold over 500 bucks, also the company’s first 5G phone, the support could have been better. For months after the device hit the shelves, Xiaomi forgot about the device entirely. Zero support, and to cap it all, the device still runs pre-installed Android OS (Android 9), and there’s no plan by the company to bring a newer version to the device users. However, there has been a positive change in the past month, and long may it continue. Who knows, the company might decide to bring the device to Android 11, the same way it skipped MIUI 11 and upgraded the phone to MIUI 12, of which the global users are now receiving a subsequent build.
The latest Mi Mix 3 5G update already arrived for the EEA users a couple of weeks ago. But unlike them, the global users are receiving the update alongside the December security patch. It also optimized the control center layout in landscape mode and fixed some minor bugs. The update is being pushed via OTA, and as such, will take time before appearing on all eligible units (running current and official MIUI ROM).
Meanwhile, it’s hitting eligible users with a version number, MIUI 12.0.2.0 PEMMIXM. It’s based on Android 9, sadly, and will arrive via OTA. However, for those running unofficial MIUI ROM, we have added download links to the latest Mi Mix 3 5G update below this post. The full ROM is about 2.5GB in size, while the OTA ROM weighs in at 565MB.
