Xiaomi is yet to extend the Memory Extension feature to the global models but has since given hints on possible phones that will get it. As usual, the rollout started in China last year with the Mi 10 Ultra and has been enabled in other premium devices. However, stable ROM users of these phones can’t enjoy the feature yet as it remains exclusive to closed beta testers. Only the Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G users can enable the toggle under settings, and it seems the company is still extending support to more regions.
The Memory Extension feature has just been enabled on devices that need it. It was premium phones that have been receiving it, but that would work better on mid-rangers. That is because these phones are equipped with less RAM, which might cause lag when running demanding applications and games. Typically, Xiaomi equips its mid-range phones with 6GB of RAM, and with the addition of up to 3GB of RAM when the memory Extension feature is enabled, it’ll see such phones handle demanding apps seamlessly.
According to a recent report, the Memory Extension feature has been enabled on Redmi Note 8, Redmi Note 9T, Redmi 9T. It’s interesting to see the Note 8 bag this fascinating feature, but it remains exclusive to the Chinese ROM users. Xiaomi will eventually push it to Global users, perhaps with MIUI 13. The only way to enable it on your Redmi Note 8, Redmi Note 9T (Redmi Note 9 5G), and Redmi 9T (Redmi Note 9 4G) would be to install the latest China beta ROM – V21.8.6.
Also, those that run Xiaomi. EU ROM on their supported devices can enable this feature. Other than that, you might have to wait for the official release, which might arrive with MIUI 13. We expect other devices to get it, especially mid-range phones as they’re the ones that can do with additional RAM.
