Alleged MIUI 12 update for Mi Mix 3 5G won’t be happening

Xiaomi started its 5G journey back in 2018 with the unveiling of the Mi Mix 3 5G. It was the company’s first 5G enabled device before they recently added the likes of Redmi K30 5G, Mi 10 & Mi 10 Pro, Poco F2 Pro, Redmi 10X 5G, and others. But among all these devices, only the Mi Mix 3 5G still runs MIUI 10 on top Android 9, and according to the recent development, there’s no MIUI 12 update for the device.

Before this latest report, the Xiaomi UK Customer support alleged that the device will receive a security patch update in June, and by September, MIUI 12 update for Mi Mix 3 5G will start arriving. But unfortunately, the device hasn’t received any update, and with the recent report coming out from Mi community forum, there is likely not going to be a MIUI 12 update for Mi Mix 3 5G. 

It’s no news that Xiaomi has started rolling out the stable version of the MIUI 12 update and has upgraded a good number of phones to the latest Android skin. However, Mi Mix 3 is yet to receive the update, which has elicited some questions. Few questions were asked under the Mi Mix 3 thread, of which one of them was “what about 5G variant?”

The answer to the query was rather shocking given early reports from UK Customer support. It reads “from the information we have, there are no update plans for the 5G variant. We do not know when an update might come, so kindly avoid raising queries about it. Any key information regarding a possible update will be announced in the subforum.”

It’s is believed that Xiaomi wasn’t able to market many units of the Mi Mix 3 5G, and as such, the company doesn’t see a future supporting the device. The device since hitting the shelves hasn’t got any form of support, and even the 5G network seems not to work with some carriers. Luckily, there’s a telegram group that will help you update your Mi MiX 35G to a new OS, at least.
